I am so excited to be teaming up with the design team members from My Favorite Things to show you some of the products from the new release. 

One of the products I especially love is the Watercolor Wash Stencil. I combined this stencil with the new Happy Birthday Die and the Frosted Cupcake Die to create today's card!

I began by cutting and scoring a 4.25 x 5.5 inch card base from white cardstock. Then I used some low-tack tape and adhered the stencil on to the card base. 

I grabbed my Distress Oxide inks and went to work on creating the "watercolor wash" background by using an ink blening brush. I used Picked Raspberry, Spiced Marmalade, Mustard Seed, Twisted Citron, Mowed Lawn, Salty Ocean, and Wilted Violet.

After using the Happy Birthday Die, I used the coordinating stamp set to stamp the words on to the die. This technique is helpful to use when you want a clean look and don't want to mess with fussy die cuts!

I assmebled the cupcake die cut by using colored cardstocks from my scrap pile, and then I added some shading with coordinating copic markers.

I mounted the cupcake with foam tape and then adhered it down to the card base, and then glued my completed sentiment down to the cupcake and then added foam tape to the parts of the sentiment that were hanging down past the cupcake so that all the elements would have even dimension.

Thanks for joining the fun on the blog hop today! If you've just come from Julianne's blog, then you're in the right place! I'm so happy for Melissa's celebration of 5 years in this industry - especially since I'm also celebrating 5 years in cardmaking this year as well!

There's so much inspiration to be found along the way, so let's dive right into my card for today!



I began by using the Birthday Candle Background Stencil set to create those circle elements on the card. This set comes with three stencils, so you can stencil the candles spearately from the flames and get two different colors! The third stencil is the entire pattern in one stencil for creating a tone-on- tone look all in one color.

These stencils are etched with grid lines so you can line up your cardstock and get everythig centered - genius, right?!

After I ink blended my candle images on to my white cardstock using Mermaid Lagoon and Mustard Seed Distress Oxide Inks, I used a circle die from an older set to cut out several areas of the cardstock. I then used the same blue ink to color the frame piece.

I selected a piece of patterned paper from the Birthday Bash paper pack and cut it down to a 4 x 5.25 inch panel. I then glued down my circle elements to that piece of patterned paper, arranging them around so that most of them were coming off the edge. After cutting off the excess around the edges, I adhered that finished panel down to a cut and scored 4.25 x 5.5 inch white card base.



I used the Party die and some of the same patterned paper from that Birthday Bash paper pack to create that large die cut and then stamped the "Let's" from the matching Party stamp set to finish everything off!

The newest Winter Release from Catherine Pooler is available in the shop now, and we've got a fantastic blog hop lined up to showcase all the fantastic products! My first two cards use the Snowy Day Bundle and the third card uses the Cake and Confetti Bundle.

Our first card incorporates the Geometric Flakes Cover Plate Die, and it's super easy to use!



Start off by creating a wintery background of your choice. I created an alcohol ink background panel for this card, but you could definitely incorporate a different technique!



Then, cut out a 4.25 x 5.5 inch card panel and use the cover plate die to create the front panel. Apply Versamark ink all over the die cut panel and then cover with embossing powder. Glue the panel on to your background panel to complete the entire finished panel combination. Stamp a sentiment on to a strip of vellum cardstock and then wrap that sentiment strip around the panel piece and glue the ends of the strip together on the back of the panel piece.



Adhere that completely finished panel piece on to a cut and scored 4.25 x 5.5 inch card base, and you're good to go!


For the next card, you can pull out a great technique that I often forget about--dry embossing! Dry embossing combined with metallic cardstock creates a really classy look!

Welcome to another blog post that is shamelessly flaunting the awesomeness that IS the new Stamp of Approval Collection from Catherine Pooler! You can now purchase the release here.

Today's card has a fun and vintage/shabby chic feel to it, and I incorporated one of my favorite techniques--watercoloring!

Did you know that the Catherine Pooler inks are awesome for watercoloring? Once you stop you won't be able to stop so consider this your enabler warning! In order to do a watercolor wash, you'll just need to pounce some ink on to a slick surface (I used an acrylic block). You can use a water brush or a paintbrush and get the same result with either.



Cut and score a 4.25 in x 5.5 in. card base and set it aside. You'll also want to trim down a piece of watercolor paper to 4 in. x 5.25 in. Take your water brush or paintbrush and apply clean water to the paper. Next, just take your water brush or paint brush to your slick surface and then drop in the color on to your wet watercolor panel. Move the color around, add more water, or add more color until you achieve your desired affect.

Stamp some images from the I Eat Cake stamp set on to your white Catherine Pooler Designs cardstock (The CP inks stamp like a dream on this cardstock!). Trim down those pieces until they are small enough to fit all across the cardstock panel. I mounted mine with foam tape to have them pop off the card panel, but you don't have to. Choose a sentiment to stamp and then adhere your watercolor card panel on to the cut and scored card base that you created earlier.



Now, step back and try not to eat the card you've just created because....for real....these cake images are just a little too realistic for my own comfort level. I'm gonna be suggesting scratch and sniff inks to Catherine soon, so you just push the save button on that thought and maybe it will become a reality. Edible cards can surely be a thing, am I right?!
